Airport Transfer to your Casa

On arrival Habana International Airport we will have a taxi waiting to take you direct to your Casa Particulare in the heart of Old Habana ($35). Why not start your first morning with a walking tour of Old Habana – your personal guide will show you the sights as well as indicating services such as money change, internet and other practical information to help you settle into your new surroundings (per person $10 1/2 day / $18 full day). Your guide is also available for a nighttime tour to explore Habana’s legendary clubs and nightlife (per person $15).

Take a horse and buggy ride through the valley, stop at ‘Prehistory’ wall paintings and then continue by taxi to Cueva del Indio; one of many subterranean caves that were once home to runaway slaves and can now be explored by boat (park entry fee $5 not included) ($25 per person). Walking Tour

Cubanito Waterfall tour

Horseback trek through the cobbled streets of Trinidad and into the rolling countryside arriving at Cubanito Natural Park. Park the horses and enjoy a 30 minute walk along the scenic river with lots of opportunities for spotting birds and flora along the way. Arrive at a beautiful grotto and waterfall where you can jump into the fresh clean waters of a deep pool surrounded by high rock walls. Bring a picnic or snack lunch and then return to the horses for scenic ride back to your Casa Particulare (taxi/walking option also available) ($45 per person).

Huge sugar fortunes amassed in the nearby Valle de los Ingenios during the early 19th century created the illustrious colonial-style mansions bedecked with Italian frescoes, Wedgwood china and French chandeliers (per person $18).

Che Guevara Mausoleum

Santa Clara is Cuba’s most revolutionary city – and not just because of its historical obsession with Argentine doctor turned guerrillero Che Guevara. Smack bang in the geographic center of Cuba, this is a city of new trends and edgy youth culture has been testing the boundaries of Cuba’s censorship police for years. Unique Santa Clara offerings include Cuba’s only official drag show, a graphic artists’ collective that produces satirical political cartoons, and the best rock festival in the country: Ciudad Metal.

The city’s fiery personality has been shaped over time by the presence of the nation’s most prestigious university outside Havana, and a long association with Che Guevara, whose liberation of Santa Clara in December 1958 marked the end of the Batista regime. Little cultural revolutions have been erupting here ever since (walking tours per person $10 1/2 day / $18 full day).
